We’re back this week with some dose of inspiration.
Don’t worry about the title, I already know that there’s no spring season in Nigeria where I happen to live. However it happens that March 1st to May 31st happen to be the Spring season.
However, here spring cleaning happens virtually every weekend or every fortnight where our African mothers ensure the house and it’s environs is made spick and span. Trust me, they just plug in invisible ear buds to block out all our grumbling and murmurs, we dust, wash, just name anything possible to make the house clean.
So last weekend at my house, it was my sister’s rooms that was the victim and I happened to be waylayed into joining them. Every nook and cranny of that room was cleaned and this included discarding old clothes, books and other random stuff.
Also while at work, there was a lot of perspiration involved, some of the time I told my sisters I would give up and leave them to deal with it themselves, my mum came in every few minutes for progress reports
And this made me see that there was actually a lot of junk in that room.
Come to think of it,
Was there a truck load of junk in my mind as well???
Was my mind, like the room appearing clean on the out??
Would a focused introspection make me see the junk that lied beneath the surface???
I realized that the answer to these questions were a resounding Yes.
If the answers were a yes then what was I to do about it??
I needed a spring-clean of my mind as well. I needed to be out with the old limiting thoughts and be in with new ground-breaking ones.
We all need a lil bit of dusting and shaking up of our minds once in a while that’s asides from the daily maintenance .We need to be freed from a lot of negative ideas and thoughts and value systems that have governed our lives.
And thank goodness it’s March, the month where spring begins. What better time than this???
We have to go all out with the old and in with the new stuff, we can’t keep trying to learn new stuff while our minds are still filled with junk.
Even the man Jesus who was the embodiment of wisdom said:
No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment and the rent is made worse
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish, but they put new wine into new bottles and both are preserved
We are new creatures and we can’t afford to put in our old habits into this new man…
We make a commitment to clear out self-pity, malice, covetousness, rivalry, anger, anxiety, second-guessing and every other unwholesome habit we know we possess.
We decide to intentionally create space for a wholesome life of joy, of gratitude, peace, confidence, and a life completely given to a purpose and vision and that which does not in any way try to quench the light of others around us.
So, this March and forever, what habits do you posses that you know you need to get rid of to create space for a new one to take its place??… Make a commitment to let go.
Take it one day at a time and you’d be surprised at how much transformation you’ll see in the end.
Let these words be your confession…
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
Finally ,in this cleaning exercise, there was sweating involved and trust me guys….. Some days won’t be as easy as the others.. It could feel like anger jealousy and all what not are weighing you down all at once.
For some of us, we’d have to work at it so much to the extent of perspiration …. We’d feel like throwing in the towel like me but we’ve gotta stay in it…. Finish strong.
Finally, remember I mentioned that my mum was coming in every few minutes. That’s an accountability partner.
This could be a mentor, a friend or sibling. Just anyone who you trust to hold you accountable…. Find them now.
All in all dust up the shelves, scrub the floors clean up the junk and come out looking spick and span, with a mind free of encumbrances.
For your mind is the seat of all thought and inspiration and as a man thinks in his heart, so he is.
Thanks for reading….. I’d really love to hear from you… I love you, and I am committed to helping you grow in your personal space…a word at a time.
See you soon!!!!!!
