Yay!!! It’s Spring Cleaning

Hi blogifam!!!!

We’re back this week with some dose of inspiration.

Don’t worry about the title, I already know that there’s no spring season in Nigeria where I happen to live. However it happens that March 1st to May 31st happen to be the Spring season.

However, here spring cleaning happens virtually every weekend or every fortnight where our African mothers ensure the house and it’s environs is made spick and span. Trust me, they just plug in invisible ear buds to block out all our grumbling and murmurs, we dust, wash, just name anything possible to make the house clean.

So last weekend at my house, it was my sister’s rooms that was the victim and I happened to be waylayed into joining them. Every nook and cranny of that room was cleaned and this included discarding old clothes, books and other random stuff.

Also while at work, there was a lot of perspiration involved, some of the time I told my sisters I would give up and leave them to deal with it themselves, my mum came in every few minutes for progress reports

And this made me see that there was actually a lot of junk in that room.

Come to think of it,

Was there a truck load of junk in my mind as well???

Was my mind, like the room appearing clean on the out??

Would a focused introspection make me see the junk that lied beneath the surface???

I realized that the answer to these questions were a resounding Yes.

If the answers were a yes then what was I to do about it??

I needed a spring-clean of my mind as well. I needed to be out with the old limiting thoughts and be in with new ground-breaking ones.

We all need a lil bit of dusting and shaking up of our minds once in a while that’s asides from the daily maintenance .We need to be freed from a lot of negative ideas and thoughts and value systems that have governed our lives.

And thank goodness it’s March, the month where spring begins. What better time than this???

We have to go all out with the old and in with the new stuff, we can’t keep trying to learn new stuff while our minds are still filled with junk.

Even the man Jesus who was the embodiment of wisdom said:

No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment and the rent is made worse

Neither do men put new wine into old bottles else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish, but they put new wine into new bottles and both are preserved

Matthew 9:16-17

We are new creatures and we can’t afford to put in our old habits into this new man…

So today,

We make a commitment to clear out self-pity, malice, covetousness, rivalry, anger, anxiety, second-guessing and every other unwholesome habit we know we possess.

We decide to intentionally create space for a wholesome life of joy, of gratitude, peace, confidence, and a life completely given to a purpose and vision and that which does not in any way try to quench the light of others around us.

So, this March and forever, what habits do you posses that you know you need to get rid of to create space for a new one to take its place??… Make a commitment to let go.

Take it one day at a time and you’d be surprised at how much transformation you’ll see in the end.

Let these words be your confession…

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

Phil 4:13

Finally ,in this cleaning exercise, there was sweating involved and trust me guys….. Some days won’t be as easy as the others.. It could feel like anger jealousy and all what not are weighing you down all at once.

For some of us, we’d have to work at it so much to the extent of perspiration …. We’d feel like throwing in the towel like me but we’ve gotta stay in it…. Finish strong.

Finally, remember I mentioned that my mum was coming in every few minutes. That’s an accountability partner.

This could be a mentor, a friend or sibling. Just anyone who you trust to hold you accountable…. Find them now.

All in all dust up the shelves, scrub the floors clean up the junk and come out looking spick and span, with a mind free of encumbrances.

For your mind is the seat of all thought and inspiration and as a man thinks in his heart, so he is.

Thanks for reading….. I’d really love to hear from you… I love you, and I am committed to helping you grow in your personal space…a word at a time.

See you soon!!!!!!

Five Lessons from Oma Lee

A nugget grammatically defined is a small thing that is regarded as valuable.

These lessons I learnt from sitting with ‘Oma Lee’ as I fondly refer to my mum for over two hours are nuggets I believe are worth sharing with you.

So, I have basically five lessons (nuggets) to share… That’s a lot right!!!

Some, you know, others you don’t, so just see where it all ends. You might just learn a thing or two.

Yeah, we’ve all heard about meditation and yoga and controlling the subconscious and blah. But this goes way beyond that… This is not talking about passively engaging in an activity to give you certain peace which can be lost in the snap of your fingers,

This is talking about actively involving your mind in your decision making process.

The thing that irks me is this, you just might feel the same;

Many times, this body doesn’t wanna do what my mind wants to.

It’s like when a freight train takes off at the station and the horn is blown for the driver to stop before it’s destination.

My body just stops all these wonderful thoughts I have going before I have the chance to do them.. It’s SAAD, really SAAD.

So, Oma Lee says, actively ensure that the thoughts which you think in your mind becomes your reality by making sure your body takes action to do it… Thinking is not equal to doing!!!

Take a good look at the picture above, really look at it,

What colour is at the background?

Way before the blues, reds, yellows were painted on it. What do you see?

For me, I see white. I see what it was before what it became, I see the canvas before the paintings.

Oma Lee says, you have to remember the white, if you can’t find it or have forgotten what it was like to be the white, you’ve got to remind you that before other colors came around, before life’s experiences changed your colour ,

‘Just in case’ your white has been blackened or tainted, you’ve got to do the dirty work,

Shake yourself from the dust, get the hypo or jik as may be required and scrub till you are white again.

Shake the dust till no speck remains. Till the true you. Whom God had made in light before time immemorial may be revealed.

So, for some of us, this might just be it.

You just might know the true you. You’ve done a SWOT analysis on yourself and in your own eyes you come up short.

Why did the creator have to make me this way, I’m a procrastinator, while I see Simbi, she puts her mind to the goals she sets, and in the blink of an eye, she’s done with five goals, while I still struggle to start the first.

A seed when planted has to fight to overcome the layer of soil above it before it can be revealed to have been planted. You too might just be like me who has to fight certain habits or traits which are not beneficial to your development, and will not in any way assist in attaining your goals.

As my mama said

And pray!!!!! Talk to the creator who made you like your life depended on it….

‘Your life actually does depend on him anyway ‘.

You’ll see in the end, that it was all for His Glory. That your seeming weakness was all a strength yet to be revealed, that the darkness was all so that the light may shine brighter when it appears.

Besides, Simbi may just have her battles too, so don’t go comparing yourself with her.

We all do this to ourselves, or have done this to ourselves before. We never seem to have enough, or done enough.

We stop ourselves in the tracks before others do. Mean while, we had all the capabilities to carry us through all along.

Not tomorrow, but what we need to achieve that feat is already with us and in us but we think we have to wait till all’s perfect before we can do that which we need to do.

He that observeth the wind will not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

King Solomon,

Ecclesiastes 11:4

Don’t wait till all’s perfect. Do it now.

The last and most important nugget…

That’s our only pathway to success, not that which is defined by the world. But the only kind that adds no sorrow can be obtained from God alone.

He knows the path you are to tread before you were born. So in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.

If you know him, good for you… Seek him. For in him lies all Knowledge and Wisdom and Strength.

If you haven’t had a relationship with him.

Start today by accepting the Lord Jesus into your heart. He is the way, the truth and the life.

Confess, your sins and accept his Lordship.

He loves you and he’s ready to give you a hope and a future in Him.

I really do hope you learnt from my Mum… A daughter can hope right?

If you have some nuggets to share as well, you could comment below, I’d really love to hear from you.

I love you loads, God Loves you to infinity and beyond!!!

Stay blessed till next week!!!!

A December to Remember

So it’s December folks!!!!!

The realization of this fact hit me like a sledgehammer tonight and it occurs to me;

That one of my goals this year was to get started  on this blog site which I officially opened some three years ago (of which I’ve never gotten around posting anything up until now).

Don’t blame me…it’s not for lack of trying and trust me, I did try. I just never posted what I wrote because it never seemed good enough, funny enough, intelligent enough and all other things a blog could be but hey, this is December right? the year’s almost ended and be as it may..my goal must be achieved.

As I write this , I wonder how many people were like me this year, not achieving that goal, taking that job, going for that interview or audition, all because we felt what we did wasn’t good enough or even worse is the fact that we think we aren’t good enough.

That our talents aren’t honed enough or we are not as beautiful as we deem acceptable or that we have to have everything perfectly packed in a little pretty gift box and tied with a star studded ribbon before we can manifest that which is in us.

Far from it fam!!! truth is, we don’t have to have it all put together before we take that one step into the deep and walk on water. We don’t have to wait until night to do what we could have done all day long.

Start now, start small, start afraid.  Just take those feet out of the boat and watch them walk on water.

To wrap it all up, all I ‘m trying to say is this, if you are like me who has not completely achieved her  goals for this year, the good news is, WE STILL GAT TIME!!! we still have approximately 23 days before the red carpet rolls in the new year.

Make this month a December to Remember and make sure to achieve your goals!!! and to those of us who still think we aren’t good enough, who are still afraid to walk on water and break away from our fear, here’s a quote I believe we might find useful;.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves . Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented , fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t fell insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in EVERYONE.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson.

Cheers to the weekend and to the rest of our year. Ciao!!!
